A big new search engine launched today, The Cuil. Developed and run by the husband-and-wife team of Stanford professor Tom Costello and former Google search architect Anna Patterson,
They says that the engine is launching with 120 billion pages indexed.
Cuil is bigger, faster, and better than Google's search engine in every way, Costello said to webware.
Costello also claims that Cuil's Web crawler is three times faster than Google's.
This is an image taken from Cuil search results page for the google.
You will see why Cuil is different from
Google at the first look of their earch result page.
One important difference between Cuil and Google is its ranking system. Rather than assigning priority to pages based on inbound links as Google does ("Pagerank"), Cuil analyzes the content of Web pages to divine their relevance to a search query. Costello said Cuil's search is "contextual," and that, "we're trying to understand the real world, not the Web."
(are you remember what google said few days ago !)
When you search for a common name, for example, Cuil will give you a categorized results under tabs. It will also break out sub-topics related to each name. If you search for "Google," there are different tabs for "Google" and all other related things with Google.
Cuil says these categorization and adding more info to search page, will add value to Cuil.
However Some important industrial features are still absent from Cuil, like image search etc.
Cuil browser toolbar, and widgets are coming soon.
The other thing is Google has not indexed the Cuil yet.
We will see in next few how Google respond to the newly emerged buddy.

Cuil, The new big search engine challenging Google
Google reveals the scope of Web-crawling.
Official Google blog was announced that they has knew the web was big and discussed some details about challenges of web crawling.
they said that....
"How do we find all those pages? We start at a set of well-connected initial pages and follow each of their links to new pages. Then we follow the links on those new pages to even more pages and so on, until we have a huge list of links. In fact, we found even more than 1 trillion individual links, but not all of them lead to unique web pages.
Many pages have multiple URLs with exactly the same content or URLs that are auto-generated copies of each other. Even after removing those exact duplicates, we saw a trillion unique URLs, and the number of individual web pages out there is growing by several billion pages per day"
further saying..
"So how many unique pages does the web really contain? We don't know; we don't have time to look at them all! :-) Strictly speaking, the number of pages out there is infinite -- for example, web calendars may have a "next day" link, and we could follow that link forever, each time finding a "new" page. We're not doing that, obviously, since there would be little benefit to you. But this example shows that the size of the web really depends on your definition of what's a useful page, and there is no exact answer."
We don't index every one of those trillion pages -- many of them are similar to each other, or represent auto-generated content similar to the calendar example that isn't very useful to searchers. But we're proud to have the most comprehensive index of any search engine, and our goal always has been to index all the world's data.
Google likes to talk about how users have choice and competition just one click away, and that's a fair point. But the blog post also makes it even clearer just how high barriers to entry are in the search market. That's one of the reasons Yahoo's BOSS (build your own search service) program is intriguing: it lets search start-ups take advantage of Yahoo's crawling, indexing, and search technology in exchange for advertising or revenue-sharing partnerships.

Google introduces Knoll
To help you share what you know
The Knol project is a site that hosts many knols — units of knowledge — written about various subjects. The authors of the knols can take credit for their writing, provide credentials, and elicit peer reviews and comments. Users can provide feedback, comments, related information. So the Knol project is a platform for sharing information, with multiple cues that help you evaluate the quality and veracity of information. The key principle behind Knol is authorship. Every knol will have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content. It's their knol, their voice, their opinion. google expect that there will be multiple knols on the same subject, and they think that is good.
With Knol, google introducing a new method for authors to work together that we call "moderated collaboration." With this feature, any reader can make suggested edits to a knol which the author may then choose to accept, reject, or modify before these contributions become visible to the public. This allows authors to accept suggestions from everyone in the world while remaining in control of their content. After all, their name is associated with it!
Features:
write any thing you like
collaborate with other authors
search for knols on a specific subject
create your own knoll

Gmail and Google Calendar goes Offline

Gmail and Google calender is preparing to give an offline experience to their members.
Gmail and Google Calendar will add offline support in approximately 6 weeks.
In the past months, Google accidentally enabled the option in Google Calendar and some users saw the dialog illustrated below: "To view and edit the next 3 months of your Google Calendar when you're not connected to the Internet, click OK." Also it is said that Google will add SyncML support for Gmail contacts next month.
This is "related to the sync that they worked on with Apple for 3G iPhone". SyncML is a standard for data synchronization supported by a lot of companies. "SyncML is most commonly thought of as a method to synchronize contact and calendar information between some type of handheld device and a computer (personal, or network-based service), such as between a mobile phone and a personal computer."

Importance of feeds for blogger optimization.
Importance of feeds for blogger optimization.
You may already know what are the feed and how they perform.
In simplest terms, feeds are the latest updated content of a web site. They are acting as alerts.
When new content appears on a site feeds are alerted.
Which usually publcly viewable. You can read feed contenet at any time using your browser or any other method, like 'igoogle'.
How You can view content of Other web sites.
For example go to CNN or any other web site which enabled feeds.
You can recognize whether feeds are available or not on a site by looking at address bar of the browser.
If feeds are enabled, a tiny squared icon (similar to above image)appears on right side of the address bar.
then you can click on that icon to view feeds or search the site for specific feed links.
Firefox Live Click
There's a good extension for firefox called "firefox live click". which you can view feed contents within your browser toolbar without going to or loading any web page.Download "live click" here.
Firefox liveclick
After you installed 'liveclick' on firefox, Just left click on feed icon or a feed url of a web page and select "live bookmark this feed link" or "live bookmark this web page".
The importance of feeds to optmize blogger.
I have realized that adding feed content of web sites (specially popular web sites such as google or CNN) may dramattically improve your site's availability on search engines.Because when google or any other search engine crawls our web site they crawls all the content of web site including feed content.
For example: If you have added feeds of CNN to your blog, the crawler assumes that feed contents are originally within your site and ultimately list the blog on search engine with a high rank.
Then if someone search google for "US flood", the probability to appear CNN content is very high, plus your url .
I have realised the fact long ago and that's why you can see some feed content within my blog.

How To Get Top 10 Position In Google
If you are a website owner, you will definitely want to get your website rank well in Google organic listings for keywords phrases that are most relevant to what you are offering. Getting your site to the first page of Google is not an impossible dream, as long as you choose the right keywords for your optimization plan.
Do not make the mistake of trying to optimize one-word phrase such as "flowers" or "golf". There are 2 reasons why you should not do this. First, it is almost impossible for a new site to get into the first page of Google for these types of keyword phrases, as it is way too competitive.
Secondly, a good search engine optimization plan is to optimize keyword phrases that are more targeted. For example, "golf" is too general and the traffic that comes to your website may not be very eager to buy golf equipments from you. They may just be interested to find out more about golf. On the other hand, if you optimize keyword phrases like "discount golf clubs" or "used golf clubs" you stand a higher chance to convert your website visitors to customers.
Now let me share with you 4 best SEO tips to get to the top on Google:
1. Choose the right keywords. Again is back to what I have shared with you above. Choosing the right keywords for your optimization plan will determine whether you succeed in getting to the top on Google. Choose keyword wisely and make sure that they keywords you choose have substantial search volume to justify your effort.
2. Good onsite optimization. A good onsite optimization is the basic of all successful SEO case studies. You need to place keywords in areas such as the title tags, meta tags, header tags, alt tags and content. By getting a keyword targeted domain name such as "mygolfclubs", you will score extra point with Google.
3. Good original content. Google dislikes non-original content and penalize duplicate content. If the content of your website is not original, no matter how much optimization you do to it, it will not rank high. It is definitely worth your effort to spend time developing quality and original content. Update your site with fresh content frequently and you will score another big point with Google.
4. Intensive linking campaign. Google takes into account the number of links pointing back to your website. With more links pointing back to your site, it shows that your site is important and popular. However, links pointing back to your website need to be relevant to what your site is providing. Relevancy plays a very important role if you want to achieve successful optimization. You can get links pointing back to your site by submitting your website to directories, and writing articles and distribute them to the various article directories online.
With good organic ranking on Google, you can be sure to see a surge of traffic to your website and hence more exposure of your business.

How it works
Create a your own search engine.
We all know the Google Advanced Search page that lets you refine your searches and find what you need faster. But how many of us understand the complicated URLs the search engines generates?
Well I am not saying that I’m some sort of expert but here are some information regarding the URLs generated by Google. Let’s start by looking at one such URL:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=nintendo+wii&hl=ro&num=10&btnG=C%C4%83utare+Google&
as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=
You don’t understand much and it looks quite long but it doesn’t have to be this way. Many of the variables included are not even used in the query. Here are the basics:
What you should know is that you always start with: http://www.google.com/search?. This tells Google it’s an advanced search and that there are some variables to come. Besides, remember that all the variables must be connected with ampersands (&; ex. as_q=nintendo+wii&hl=ro) and if you want to use more than one search terms just use ‘+’ (ex. nintendo+wii) between them. Speaking of variables here are the most important tags you can use:
as_oq -> This tells Google to find pages in which at least instance of nintendo OR wii is found
as_q -> This means that you look for nintendo and wii in the same page
as_epq -> Google translates this as a Google search of “nintendo wii”, searches the exact phrase ‘nintendo wii’
num -> The number of results you want displayed, it ranges from 0 to 100. If you set num to 0 you will get the ‘No match found” message
safe -> If you set this to active the Google Safe Search is on and the adult material will be filtered
as_eq -> Use this to exclude a term from your search
as_qdr -> Shows only results that have been updated in the given time interval. Possible values: y (year), m6 (6 months), m3 (3 months).
as_sitesearch -> Limits the search to a specific domain or TLD (.us; .gov; .co.uk; .ro; etc)
as_occt -> This is set by default to ‘any’ but if you change it you can search in: title, url, links
The goal of this article is not exactly for you to use from now on hand-made search URLs but yo better understand how the Google search engine works and if you please to create some URLs for yourself.
Examples:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=nintendo&as_eq=wii&as_sitesearch=.com&
num=50&as_occt=title&as_qdr=m3 -> Note that when you create your own URL it should not be this long as you can easily get lost in all the variables used
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=nintendo+wii&as_sitesearch=.com
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=nintendo&as_eq=wii&as_sitesearch=.com
